For conspicuous gallantry and devotion of duty at Marcelcave, on 8th August, 1918. During the attack, the company was held up by a strong point. This W.O. [Warrant Officer] organized a party and made a feint attack on the left flank. Although he was surrounded by the enemy he succeeded by his daring and skill in cutting his way through with his party, and so enabled his company to capture the strong point, which consisted of five machine guns, with less difficulties and few casualties.
