Elly, Arthur: Service no. 53185

Arthur Elly served four years with the Grenadiers prior to World War 1. He enlisted in Windsor and listed his mother Lily Elly of Detroit as next of kin. His trade at the time was that of a tinner. He is buried  in St. John’s Anglican Church Cemetery, Thamesford, Ontario. The history of the 18th Battalion shows that they served in England from April 29, 1915 – September 14, 1915 and then in France from September 15, 1915 until April 3, 1919. They returned to Canada on May 14, 1919 aboard the Coronia.
