Family Search: Private James Taggart was born on 10 February 1886, in Renfrew, Renfrewshire, Scotland, United Kingdom as the son of James Taggart and Elizabeth Deans Taggart. He married Myrtle Irene Brown on 10 December 1914, in St. Marys, Kawartha Lakes, Ontario, Canada. He immigrated to Canada in 1913. He registered for military service in 1914. In 1914, at the age of 28, his occupation is listed as clerk in Stratford, Perth, Ontario, Canada. He died on 9 October 1915, in Ieper, West Flanders, Belgium, at the age of 29, and was buried in Voormezele, Ieper, West Flanders, Belgium.

YOUNG ST. MARYS WIFE BEREAVED BY WAR.

ST. MARYS, Oct. 25.–Word has been recieved from the adjutant-general at Ottawa that Pte. James Taggart, [No. 5385,] of D Company, 18th Battalion, was killed in action at the battlefront on October 9.

Pte. Taggart was about 20 years of age and a native of Scotland, and during his residence here was popular. He was a clerk in the grocery department of Dicksons Limited for a time, and latterly a clerk with J.P. rogers & Co. for over a year. Just previous to enlisting in D Company 18th Battalion, Canadian overseas contingent.

He was married a year ago to Myrtle Brown, daughter of David Brown, west ward, who survives him. He also leaves an infant son.
